BCJ- Box Car Junkiez was origionally formed in 1995. In its earliest stages it was singular, “Box Car Junkie” pertaining solely to just my self. I wanted a name to coincide with my graffiti name, something that would identify my addiction to others, of the freights I was painting at the time. As I became more obsessed with painting freights, and learning as much as I could about them, I began to get others who I was down with to paint freights as well. They soon fell in love with the idea of a rolling canvas that traveled the country. I changed the phrase to identify a crew which I founded in 1996. In its early days the prime members were my self, Wreck, Skor, Cryp, and Helm. After some time it became evident that they did not have the true addiction that I had, and had quit painting all together. Again I was just a “Box Car Junkie”. In early 1998, I met Sorc and Caes. We became the 3 man, Box Car Junkiez crew, that were constantly smashing freights on the regular. It was easy because, even since 1996, there were no other writers who were painting freights at that time besides ourselves, so we kept our spots chill and paintable. Throughout my travels and publicity I began to meet other writers who were eventually down with the crew. Those writers were Dreos and Kaer from the West Coast/AOM crew, Che, Jerk, Freak and Vandel from Baltimore, Necs from Pittsburgh, Rype, Tre, Simple, and Reno from the Philly area, as well as Crime from Pa, Phone from Va, and so on. Over the years writers have come and gone. Some moved on because of responsibilities, others because they lost the love of freights, and then there were some for whatever reason, don’t even speak with me anymore. In everyone I’ve met over the years who pushed the crew, there are a distinct few, that truly have, the addiction to freights that I will always consider to be crew, to be a true “Box Car Junkie”. The name reflects an addiction, a cause, and a reasoning behind the addiction to the whole culture, that at times, surpasses all else. The crew in my mind from day one, was not about how many trains we could paint, or that we’d have the biggest rep, crew, or have the craziest styles, it was solely about passion and dedication derived from a true addiction, pure and simple. Currently, Menk and Snez have been crushing the freights and are truly representing the crew. They are young, fresh, inspiring writers, who give me the push I need at times. They joined the crew in 2006, and have been representing BCJ non stop, with dedication, fresh colors, and big “in your face” pieces, with an addiction that makes me smile. When a crew member tells me about their love, passion, and addiction to freights, in a way that I can relate, then I know for sure, they are a true “Box Car Junkiez” for life! Long live the railroad, Long live the culture!
