Well, my name is Joe and im from boyle and ive come back to photography after 15yrs. Back in the 80s and early 90s I was doing a good bit with photography, such as projects, weddings and little photo-journalism. I used pentax cameras and medium format and of developed all my black and white.

So im glad to be back, just getting my head round this digital stuff. Good luck Joe.

Joe’s a photographer I greatly admire. I appreciate and study his work. He has a lot to teach others. Like many, he can make an image that's true to its subject. But he's also adventuresome in subject matter and style--as likely to make a stone-cold-perfect portrait of his brother as he is to make a moody Irish landscape. For me, his portrait of his brother IS a moody Irish landscape. There's nothing repetitive or predictable about Joe. He’s an ecumenicist. He seems to take his camera everywhere. Clearly, he’s made photography part of his daily life--something I wish I was better at. He belongs to a photo club, which means he's got mates to support him and push him and keep him in line. That sounds wonderful. He's got a taste for a story. It shows in many of his photographs. He seems to be a humble and quiet man, sometimes doubting himself. But he's remarkably creative and productive. He leans into the wind. Don't kid yourself: He's driving the bus.

Joe is the definitive Irish version of the Henri Cartier-Bresson school of photography. He is unassuming and modest, has a developed sense and appreciation of the decisive moment and an openness to experiment and learn from others. I was so impressed with Joe's recent presentation of his work from Paris, I felt compelled to acknowledge it here. Joe is very encouraging and astute in his comments and critiques to others here in Flickr, it is fitting that his contribution to the craft be commended. There is no doubt, Joe's noviciate in digital photography is at an end. This man has his best work yet to do and I look forward to witnessing its 'becoming'. Joe, my gratitude and admiration are yours. Tony.
