Born and raised in New Orleans and a former resident of the late great Desire Projects, I developed my skill as an artist, though I spent part of my teen years in my back hall fixing old fans and radios. Near graduation time (1991-92), I worked mostly with local photographers as a background artist and, also, I airbrush T-shirts.

After Hurricane Katrina, where I lost half of my artwork (including the comic book I drew of everybody from around the way), I had moved to Dallas in September and went on a two year hiatus. Now, I'm getting back into my work (you can see my new work on www.myspace.com/jlewisjunior). I currently have a blog series about the the late-great Desire Housing Projects (1954-2004) called "A HOME NAMED DESIRE: The Rise and Fall of a New Orleans Community" and I'm looking at possibly publishing it in book form sometime in the future, God willing.
