Drag to set position!
A grumpy old man who has liked trains since being taken to watch them by his grandfather in the late 1940s/early 1950s!
I started taking photos in the late 1950s with a 'Coronet' box camera on 120 film; from this I moved to an Ilford Sportsman 35mm camera, but as I didn't have a light meter all camera settings were by guess work, and this is reflected in the poor quality of some of the slides taken in the mid/late 1960s. Later photos were taken on a Practica MTL3, and when this gave up the ghost I moved to a Nikon campact digital camera. This is now my main camera, although I do have a Kodal digital camera as back-up.
Having taken photos for so long, I have in my collection many of scenes no longer with us. So - despite the poor quality of some - I've decided to post them here on flickr for others to remember the good old days ( ! ), and for those not old enough to remember BR's Modernisation Plan diesels when new, and to see how they changed from green to blue to sector liveries, and even in some instances into the privatisation era.
As more photos are added, I'll try and split some into sets to help people find what they're looking for.
This site just covers British standard gauge trains:
- grumpyslittletrains@yahoo.com covers narrow and miniature railways,
- and moreofgrumpystrains@yahoo.co.uk covers non-British trains
