Junko Yamamoto is a visual artist born and raised in Tokyo Japan. She started drawing at the age of three and knew then she wanted to become an artist. Junko moved to the states alone to go study abroad the age of 16. Graduated from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle with Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree Cum Laude in 1999. Her main medium has been oil painting; she also produces printmaking, animated video installations and mixed media installations.

Creating things make her a whole. She loves to create things that able to connect and communicate with viewers in a way that cannot be done any other way.

 

Exhibitions include 40th anniversary group show of SAM Gallery Seattle WA in 2013, Solo exhibition at EC Gallery Chicago in 2010, solo exhibition Frank Lloyd Wright’s Westcott House Foundation Springfield OH 2007 and solo exhibitions in Tokyo and Osaka in 2006.

 

Upcoming/work in progress event is temporary public art, Art Interruptions 2016 - Rainer Valley, City of Seattle Office of Arts and Culture.

Recently awarded with Artist Trust GAP Grant 2015, Pratt Fine Arts Center Professional Artist Residency in 2015 and Jentel Artists residency in 2014.

She will have her solo show at TASTE at SAM in May of 2017.

Public collections include Swedish Medical Center Foundation Collections, Group Health Bellevue Medical Center, HarborView Medical Center, Idaho Trust National Bank, Mulvanny G2 Architecture and Swedish Cancer Institute.
