Victor Cecil Dove

17th September 1928 - 26 June 2007

 

Victor Dove was born in Sydney NSW Australia, living in Carrs Park and Educated at Hurstville High School in East Sydney. At an early age Victors love for art had become obvious with his Victors Father, the late Sidney Dove having a special table with an easel built for him. After leaving high school Victor then went to East Sydney Technical College where he studied Commercial Art, Figure Drawing, Painting and Composition; progressing into a career as a Commercial Artist.

 

Early in his career Victor established a position in Pakistan and stayed for three years and working for a Karachi advertising agency, extensively Traveling and Sketching many points of interest.

 

Moving back to Australia Working as a Press Artist for The Sydney morning Herald and The Daily Telegraph he established himself as a commercial artist and to some degree a travel writer & photographer which he found very fulfilling.

 

With his love for travel Victor he undertook extensive visit throughout South East Asia during his holidays studying the Culture and People of various Countries publishing a number in Articles for Arts of Asia, Orientations, Kaliederscope and various other related magazines during his somewhat limited spare time; this eventually overtook his passion along with his paintings and became his first love.

 

Victors photography and research into a lot of these diversified cultures in South East Asia often led to a presentation slide show to related migrated culture groups in Australia ie: the Indonesian society (believed to be one of the founders), Korean Society plus many others.

 

Spending time in Fiji during the late 60's he managed to gather a portfolio of information and sketches to have a book on Fiji published (Fiji Sketchbook) in 1970 by Rigby.

 

In his limited spare time and latter after he retired Victor spent some of his time on the NSW South Coast with late brother's Frederick and Family, whilst there he managed to sketch and paint various point of interest particularly of the Kiama and Jamberoo area’s. Along with a collection of all the above collection of Black & White and Water Colour Paintings, part of his collection also includes a number of paintings and drawings from Sydney area particularly around Cronulla and Doll's Point.

 

Victor's life has always been involved a art in a variety of art forms, Painting, Black & White line and wash drawing ( a member of the Black & white artist club and the Australian authors society), Sketch artist, Water Colour Paintings, Photography and Travel Writer. He has an extensive collection of his water colour paintings, drawings, sketches which is reflection of Victors life and can be seen in his visual expressions displayed in a variety of formates.
