Christopher Newberry (née Juan Cristóbal Newberry Retana) was born in Mexico City on a palindrome (15.11.51) and has sought to produce obsessively balanced pictures ever since.. He went to 11 different schools in Mexico and the USA before attending the Universidad Ibero Americana (which collapsed in an earthquake in 1978), where he read Communication Science.

His career as a photographer has been unconventional. He has always had a camera to hand and has done professional photography, but it has never been his main activity. He regards himself as an image manipulator.
