Think .... out of the box

It's easy to take a photograph of something beautiful today, especially when technology has advanced so much.

What really does it for me is the ability to find something and give it a perspective that makes it that much more unique. I love photographs that literally think out of the box and I'm influenced by those who do just that.

I'm a 25 year old qualifying solicitor in London who has as of recently been lured by the addiction of great Photography.

My photographs are usually canvassed along the moodier and emotional tones. It's no surprise I love playing with Black and Whites as well as Sepia photography. At the moment I use a paltry Sony N1 and am waiting for the day I get my Nikon D200 or a D80.

Not to sound pretentious, but according to me, taking photographs isn't really an art as some would say, but an acquired skill of perception being improved. It's the post processing part that begins to allow creativity and art into the photograph. But the beatiful stuff already exists from what we see. It's us taking that particular snapshot which is an indication of our perceptions, how we see things, the perspective from which we see things, the emotions and moods that accompany our sights and visions.

Catching the right shot in the right light at the right moment is what does it for me. So I tend to concentrate on compositional structure, symmetry or even asymmetry, light, shadow, perspective and most importantly, timing. I'm not one of those that believes in going by the book with techniques, although I definitely believe in learning the camera and learning the skill behind using one.

Some of my pictures will be captioned by the names of musical pieces that I frequently listen to. My music is influenced by how I see things and vice versa. I listen to music just as much as I'd sleep or eat. It's become an integral part of my life. So it would be pretty easy to presume that music influences my tastes in photography and cinema. If you manage to see one of my shots associated with a piece, please try to couple it with the music and perhaps you'd understand my influences.

I'm really appreciative to those on Flickr who have commented and criticised my stuff. It helps to know that people do actually stop and see photographs these days. Eliciting a comment is always icing on the cake.

I hope you enjoy my work, it's something I love passionately and hope to better my hobby as I go along.

I've never written a testimonial before but I think this one is well deserved and well overdue. Kayaan's work here is simply stunning. The range of moods and themes he conveys with his camera is diverse, eye-catching and suprising - you just don't know what he's going to capture next. On a personal side and although I've never met him face to face, he comes across as someone eager to learn and share his ideas, is not too shy to ask and has always been, for me anyway, one of the more personable people here at Flickr. If you read this testimonial, please take the time to look at all of his work as I'm sure you will agree, there are some gorgeous images he has shared with us here.

As I have the joyous priviledge of studying Kayaan's photo art images, I realized that he has the innate gift to capture people with a tinge of darkness and shadows in how they present their "armour" to the outside world, yet underneath is seething, jsut below the surface. With vulnerability, fragility, sensuality and hopes and dreams. The sensual qulity of his fruits and sky and river and somehow industrial scenes unfolding, really touches a myriad of emotional qualities in my perception of who he is and also what the outside world is made up of in certain facets.. Thank you Kayaan for being here.
