For over a decade now I have expressed myself in words, traveling the world and paying the bills as a sportswriter. And yet ask me what I do for a living and the answer isn't break down the intracacies of the Cover 2 defense or tell you who the next manager of the Yankees will be. I see myself as a storyteller. Nothing more, nothing less.

For me, this is another avenue with which to explore the art of storytelling. Maybe it's a funny story about my daughter smashing a ladybug or maybe it's a soul-searching tale about the way-too-early death of my father.

When I started my 365 in July of 2007, I knew nothing about ISOs, Depth of Field or Bokeh. I've gotten infinitely better than when I began, but months later, it's still a challenge to take a picture that, at least to me, meets oh-so-high-bar that many have you have set. (You know, stuff like having the subject in focus.)

But everyday I strive to get over that bar, pull the rabbit out of the hat and somehow make my way to Explore. I guess when you come from a background of wins and losses, you process Explore as winning. I like to win.

As for the screen name, my family and I love the Chicago Cubs. (But Wayne, you just went on and on about winning? I know. I'm a complicated man.) I picked up the fever in the early 1980s, passed it onto my wife in the late 1990s and then on to my daughter the day she was born in 2007. We are still mourning the 2008 playoff collapse.

Testimonials

Wayne has a gift for telling a story. His words flow effortlessly together to create vignettes that will touch your heart and his photos are as heartfelt as his words. Check out his shots of the "Wee One" (his daughter) to see what I mean.

It's been a blast watching Wayne develop his photography skills. He has such a natural talent at capturing his feelings on camera and then meshing them with his gift of writing. I've been checking out his stream since he first started and I'm just amazed at how much he's opened up and shared his thoughts with everyone. He's been such a great flickr-friend and always has a kind word to say about my photos--even the dull, boring ones! I've wanted to quit so many times during my 365...Wayne's been one of the few who has encouraged me to stay in the game. Thanks for being my flickr friend, Wayne!

I also feel like I can relate to him in the fact that flickr and FGR has brought us out of our comfort zones many times. He has been such a great flickr friend and he always finds time to drop by and comment on my stream! That means more then he’ll ever know!

Cubsfam is one of my favorite steams to visit, not only does he show fantastic photos, of himself, his wife and weeone (which I enjoy so much) his skills as a writer flow into his pictures. I find myself enjoying his words as much as his photos. Plus, he likes baseball, how much better could he get?!?!

Wayne has mastered the art of imagery. He can say so much with just a few sentences-- so thought provoking, so soulful, so silly- and his photos have made me tear-up, laugh, ponder, and relate. Wayne has mastered the art of imagery. He can say so much with just a few sentences-- so thought provoking, so soulful, so silly- and his photos have made me tear-up, laugh, ponder, and relate. He takes photos of everyday life-- it's a hard thing for that not to become boring after a while-- but Wayne's are different. They convey such truth and honest simplicity-- things we can all relate to-- and the stories are told beautifully.... and he really does have the best looking family around. :) Hi Wayne's wife!! It seems like we've been going through this 365 day thing on much of the same page, and I'm always excited to see what the next day brings in his world. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

I haven't been visiting your stream long, but I have to leave you a testimonial. You have become one of my favorite people to check up on, and I thought I should tell you why. So, without further ado, here it is: You have a great way of showing your life. More than that, however, is the thoughtfulness that is evident in the words that accompany your shots; they give your work, and your (flickr) persona a depth and breadth I don't see a lot of on here. Cheers mate!
