My interest in photography started in early 2008 and it was soon afterwards that I discovered Flickr. Flickr is truly an amazing site, one that allows all of us a brief view through someone else's eyes. Whether we live in large cities, small villages, mountains, or by the ocean, the flickr community can catch a glimpse of what each photographer sees in their own part of the world on a daily basis. How often do we take life and our surroundings for granted and never take the time to "see" what is really around us. When I see pictures from places far away from New York City, I can see the depth and beauty of it. I hope that the photos I take of the sites in and around New York allow others to see a glimpse of my city, even if I seldom take the time myself to appreciate it fully. Thanks again to all the other "flickrs" out there for looking and commenting on my works. Oh, and if you wish to favorite a photo of mine, please have a profile and photos of your own available for others to see. Thanks.

And, as always................

TOWERS OF LIGHT 2008

Recently (2009) a friend of mine posted a photo tribute to the new Navy ship, the USS NEW YORK, who's hull is made from steel that was melted down from the remnants of the World Trade Center that was attacked on 9/11/01. The ships motto is "NEVER FORGET", which had been the sentiment of the people who were touched by the largest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor. Now 8 years after the attack, as people become complacent and memories become faded, a person asked "What does "never forget" mean?" At first I was taken back by this question, but then I thought maybe the question was sincere and the writer really wanted to "know" what it meant. While I do not speak for anyone but myself, I am sure those who were affected by 9/11 will understand what I say. "NEVER FORGET" means NEVER allowing us as a nation to ever let our guard down again.....NEVER to forget all the innocent lives that were lost on 9/11/01 (in New York City, in Washington D.C. and in Pennsylvania) when 4 planes were hijacked and turned into weapons against us......NEVER to take for granted the freedom that we have......NEVER to forget everyone (uniformed and civilian) who responded to help after the attacks............NEVER to forget all of the rescue workers who died trying to save others, who ran into the buildings with the knowledge that not all of them would ever return to their families........NEVER to forget all those who are now sick after spending months trying to recover bodies from the debris........ I hope these words (and photos and people taking the time to comment) will help to keep the memory of September 11th alive, so that we never have to repeat that horrific day ever again. And that is what is meant when we say....."NEVER FORGET". (and yes, I speak from first hand experience of that day and the months that followed.)
