My name is Stefaan Van Hyfte and I am a 27-year old artist from Brussels, Belgium. Since 2009, my bachelor graduation-year in Graphic arts at Sint Lukas, Brussels,

I try to establish myself as a freelance illustrator & artist. Within the segments of commercial publications I already found work as an illustrator for Belgian time-magazines and occasionally work for the newsprint (see De Standaard and Goedele magazine).

I like to experiment with black fineliners, ink, computer coloring and rough pencil lines. I find the use of imperfection, sort of try to respect perspectives and realistic proportions but always give it a twist, a vulnerable tense I like to give my drawings. A balance between worked out sketches and illustrations.

I already reached in 2006 my master degree in Animation at Sint Lukas, where I was fascinated with stop motion techniques. I made some obscure shorts in a sort of cabinet-style. (See link below). One of those projects 'The Aftermath', a stop motion short, was selected in a diversity of Belgian festivals

(1minutefilm&sound awards 2005(Ostend) and LeuvenKort(Leuven) 2005 as the most important audiovisual festivals). In these present moments, I'm working on a graphic novel in collaboration with a writer, a 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' adaptation. Many of my works could be translated as 'character' drawings or the use of articulated Goyaesk personas within an expressive scenery that floats around between romantic represen-

tations of life, surreal happenings and tempered feelings. Although they sometimes look like comic-gigs,

I always find my inspiration in movies, literature & photography, and don't really find my space in the field of traditional comic-drawing.
