Just a little of my background…

I was born and raised in Florida, and have loved photography for as long as I can remember. Life took me on a northern journey as a young adult, which turned into 30+ years in Virginia. I met my current husband there, we raised our kids there, and then I landed a fantastic job as a civilian photographer at Marine Corps Base Quantico!

What an amazing opportunity it was to hang around with the Marines and document their events and daily lives...the honor and privilege of a lifetime actually. I was getting PAID to take photos of everything Marine Corps, from studio portraits, to varying Marine Corps events, combat training, aerial photography from helicopters and Osprey (!!!), and was even chosen to cover 2 Presidential state funerals and an inauguration!! It was pretty surreal…I constantly had to pinch myself!! When time allowed, I also dabbled in free-lance photography for special events, weddings, landscapes and nature photography.

I was blessed with an incredible job, and spent many years enjoying my work. Then came the realization I was developing essential tremor, a common progressive, typically hereditary condition. Even with medication, it was becoming harder to hold the camera steady for free-style camera work. So after 15 years with the USMC, I retired and moved back to Florida, with my husband in tow ;-)

Now, I use my iPhone camera a lot, as it’s easier for me to handle without holding a heavy camera. I still bring out my big girl camera when I can use a tripod, and my husband acts as my “camera grip” when I need assistance with my equipment! :-) But it's all good and I am loving my life as an amateur photographer.
