I am a world traveler, founder of an international travel company (and the lead guide), wildlife tracker, photographer and videographer..I am Involved in whale research and photograph big cats around the world. I am also a conservationist and founder of a biological reserve in Central America called Aula Global. . I also founded an international non-profit educational program for youth.
Typically I travel anywhere from 8-10 months a year.. and I love it!! It is my life's passion to work with youth in the wilderness while introducing them to cross cultural experiences through home-stays and community service work in remote villages around the world.
In 1988 I sold everything I owned and traveled around the world (32 countries... on the record.. more off the record) for 2 years on $800 US. I did not plan it that way, but for 18 months I traveled with absolutely no money and no way to get money from home. (no email or cell phones back then either!) In two years of travel I was never forced to sleep on the street. The generosity of total strangers..... most being the poorest of the poor, changed me deeply. I lived deep in the bush with Aboriginal elders of Australia, met with HH the Dalai Lama, smuggled monks out of Tibet and tracked tigers in Asia.... The list of adventures is long,...too long for this intro. I only mention all these things because I have found that those who wish to really know me need to have experienced international travel or powerful/moving wilderness experiences (or something similar that requires one to have absolute faith in what is, and experienced deep personal changes because of it) I lived for years in a self built , solar powered cabin deep in the forest and I had to carry in my own water. I am not a main stream person at all. For years now I have been living off $3,000 to $6,000 US a year, but because of the way I have structured my life and work, I can travel pretty much anywhere and anytime I want. I love that freedom and value it tremendously. I aspire to meet people who also can be spontaneous, love to travel on a shoestring, and do not over value materialistic things. I love physical work... some say I work too much, and too hard.. (I am the kind of person that needs to finish what I start). I build houses and schools and design waterless composting toilets for poor villages in remote areas. . I am a auto mechanic, a welder, a machinist etc.. I use these skills to bring in some cash at home if needed, but mostly as a volunteer in various places around the world. I am an absolute believer in encouraging those around me to shine bright, not shy away from their talents, and to share all they know with anyone who is interested. Though it may sound cliche--If we are doing what we love, we will change the world... and those around us. I have seen it over and over.
Some say I am a freak show.. Perhaps!.. I can work 20 hr days for days on end if I need to... Can stay awake and lucid for 5 days straight if it is demanded of me..... but have no problem relaxing for days on a remote beach as well. ... I have a deep sense of self control and I listen to that. I have never done a drug, never smoked and never tasted alcohol.. (yet I was a rock drummer for years). No judgment of others here.. it is just that from past experiences, if people really want to know and understand me, they need to know and accept these things. Especially the substance issue. It just is not my thing and I know it. I knew it at 8 years old. It's that simple. I made my choice and never waivered. I instantly am turned off by anyone who sees it as their personal mission to convert me. I had to stare down 5 charging rhino a few summers ago.. To run would have been my certain demise. Point is.. I can stand my ground. And bend when I need to. I feel both are important attributes.
Also, I do not have a jealous or controlling bone in my body... and don't do well around those that do. I am drawn to those who can stand tall in their beliefs... being strong.. but not tough... If you know what I mean by this we would get a long just fine. When I meet you out there in the world, you will know it's me. I will not ask what you do... I will ask you why you are here on the planet.
If you don't know.. Go find out. Life is really short!.
As if you can't tell. I am not shy. I have no problem putting it all out there on the table. I am also totally new to Flikr. I have not even seen anyone else's page yet. If people generally write three lines about themselves on their profile, I am afraid I have lost 99% of you already. So, I best end here... Enjoy the photos..
