I started taking pictures at the age of 10 with my father's Kodak Brownie Box. It was fun.
That was the time we used to get 8 black and white pics out of one expensive roll (#620). The negatives which were about 4"x3" were carefully clipped on drying lines and the positive prints were given the final touches by putting on warm sheets of shiny metal for glazing.
Then the pictures were carefully arranged in albums with alternating sheets of black poster paper and Glazed tissues. The corners of each picture were carefully inserted in pasted silver and gold coloured stick-on corners.
Times changed and I shifted to 35mm B/W and soon to 35mm coloured films for prints and slides. That was the time when the cost of the film included the cost of processing as well but it was really expensive.
Things moved fast and i got my first Sony Mavica (which took 1.44 mb floppy drives for recording the image files) in the 90s.
Thereafter, there was rapid progression and several cameras were discarded with the advancement of MEGAPIXELS.
I shifted from point and shoots in 2009 to DSLR after being coaxed by my son who appreciated my pics and wanted me to get into creative photography.
I started with Nikon D3000 and its humble 18-55.
Currently I am using Nikon D7000 with its Kit lens 18-105.
I also have a few more lenses - Nikon 35mm 1.8,, Sigma 70-300, Nikon Micro 60mm 2,8.
I am also happy that i can use some of my very old manual lenses on the D7000 - i.e. Helios 50mm 2.0, Kelienar 100mm 2.8 and e seris nikon 50mm 1.8.
Flickr has been a big boon for me. Though I joined it in 2006, I became active only a few months back.
The vast variety of pictures available there are a great encouragement and i want to outdo the pictures i see there (though that is a far fetched idea). However Flickr has made me do better each day.
Thanks to all my flickr friends and guides.
