Russell Tomlin is a fine art photographer and digital artist based on the Oregon coast in the US. I began photographic practice in 2008, departing work as an academic and professor of linguistics to pursue a final run in photography. My work explores the beauty of ordinary moments, commonly tied to fog and quiet and Oregon wetlands. I seek less to document nature than to capture and develop impressions and emotions in the natural world, revealing joy, quietude, and resonance with beauty emergent.

I'd be delighted to answer any questions you might have about what you see here, and I'm very much grateful for your comments and likes, too.

Until Russell comes along. He sees the part that, when framed, becomes beauty out of chaos. A new creation, comparable to nothing. Russell’s Little Bang. In his minimalist pictures Russell picks objects orphaned in an expanse of nothingness. Like hints rather than a finished sentence; or scraps of a melody we hum on the way to find out things. They are mind pics. Russel’s camera is elitist at its very best. It takes away (‘abstracts’) from reality most of what’s obvious to the common eye. It is unique
