describe myself.... ok. here goes.

 

i am constantly thinking, hashing out new ideas and rehashing old ones in order to work out their inherent problems and inconsistencies, to discover new lines of reasoning that i may have previously overlooked.

 

my passion lies in gaining wisdom and knowledge from the past that can be used to actively help those living in the present and those who will be living in the future.

 

in my opinion, boredom is the sign of a sick mind. :D there is so much around us that can capture our imagination and drive us to new and exciting heights, to new creations and new discoveries... "boredom" just doesn't cut it. life's too short to be bored.

 

i'm an archaeologist who has worked around the world at archaeology and geomatics engineering, so my background is a little different. i've had to develop both sides of my brain as archaeology is more abstract while geomatics is purely math and logic.

 

i'm a very active person. i love to hike and climb, cycle and run. i espically enjoy cross country skiing. to put it simply, i love being outdoors and learing from and about nature. i feel closer to God in the middle of a forest than i ever do in any kind of "church". here is a short vid of some scree running a few years ago www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt5g2MDjO6k

i've never been in a gym... except in school and one can't consider that to be a real "gym". no, i've no use for gyms. i figure there are plenty of useful things that a person can do to get exercise. for example, shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, carrying groceries for your old neighbour, walking the dog. you get the picture. why waste all that energy doing no work (since in scientific terms no work is done if an object comes to rest where it was previously) when you can accomplish something for the benefit of all AND improve your health while you're at it?

 

mistakes are lessons to be learned. sometimes we have to get the same lesson again and again, but hopefully if our minds are open we will be able to make progress and learn from our own mistakes and the mistakes of others.

 

one thing that i can't stand is folks who always say "i'm so busy!" or "i'm in such a hurry now!" or "things have just been hecktic!" and they try to use this as an excuse to not communicate time and time again. heavens! if i stopped communicating and taking a moment for people every time i felt a little harried or rushed or had too much on my plate, i'd never talk to anyone! we all have 24 hours in the day, every one of us... it just comes down to alloting time to what is REALLY imortant. most folks waste their days doing BUSY work rather than IMPORTANT work... watching the tube, surfing the net... it all robs us of time that we could spend on more important things such as communicating with our fellow man and fostering better communcation between people, learning from them and their experiences. it's far more rewarding, but yes it does take time.

  

building things is something i really enjoy, whether it is furniture, sheds, re-roofing the house.... whatever. i really like to make things and always try to build so that my creations should last for the next hundred years with proper care. you could say that i am rather preoccupied with durability and sustainability, trying to make items that will last for ages while having little to no impact on the earth in the long term. in other words, all natural whenever possible. (and it's always possible, everything is possible:)

 

i'm constantly amazed at how people judge one another. they judge on looks, artistic ability, book smarts vs. practical street smarts/experience, wealth, where they were educated, family, religion. everyone judges and is judged, and yet are any of us actually qualified to do so?

 

most of my family is quite musical. i've got a cousin in new york who is a renouned jazz musician, and the list goes on. i'm not so musical due to an injury to my hand about 9 years ago, but i dabble on occasion. since i can no longer play a regular instrument i've been reduced to making music via computer, but that can be just as much fun. www.myspace.com/radgrunge
