I'm an attorney and fortunately better at my job than at photography. Like both very much though.
Got my first camera in 1999, a Canon EOS 500. From the 1000s of photos I have taken, I have about 5 really stunning ones (practice makes perfect and patience is a virtue ;-)
Discovered Flickr 2 months ago and have been the biggest fan ever since. It's inspired me so much, that I have now bought a Canon EOS 350D and have been Flickering away. So watch out all you pros ;-)
Flickr has taught me so much about people, their likes and dislikes. I have been honoured with one of my photos receiving the 4th highest score ever in Score Me and disappointed with a photo, that was almost exactly the same (and more beautiful in my view) receiving 6s and 7s.
I look at the comments or criticism and know, these are arguments I will never be able to win because beauty is,after all, in the eye of the beholder...
I have also learned that Pro does not stand for professional photographer and that this status can be bought at $24 a year ;-) Also, DO NOT delete a photo after you posted it to a set - it gets deleted from the set as well (found this out when one of my most viewed photos dissapeared ;-)
Speaking of most viewed photos - this most viewed photo is also one of my worst photos but got on Explore's Top 100 within the first day. I was very impressed and thought it had something to do with my great skill - I was wrong!!! Spent 2 days joining literally every pet or animal related group I could find and then posted the photo to each of these groups. No wonder it was viewed so much. If I look back at it, it is actually embarrassing. I have therefore decided that I will from now on, out of respect for other users of Flickr, not post any of my photos to more than 5 groups at any given time. I will avoid posting the not so good ones to groups like score me, comments or hit maybe miss"because if I do, I Force 5 other people to waist their time to look at my crap. If I, after this, get a photo on Explore's Top 50 (top 10 or even top20 is pushing it a bit) I will post it everywhere because then it will be a photo worth seeing. If any of you also feel this way, commit to it. It is in the interest of beautiful photos that the world can enjoy.
Know so little about Flickr but look forward to learn and to see beautiful photos everyday.
