Etched Images™ had a humble beginning. In 1989 David Lincoln, a long-time Napa Valley resident, converted a hen house and began a one-man operation of etching and painting wine bottles for Napa Valley wineries. These bottles were used by wineries as donations to local and national charity auctions, such as the Napa Valley Wine Auction.

In 1992, I left my management position with a large automotive accessory company to join David as a partner. We placed primary focus on catering to local wineries in developing and marketing the unique process of etching artwork onto wine bottles. As the popularity of wine grew, so did the number of wineries.

It was then that wineries started to be on the lookout for fresh, eye-catching and unique packaging. They began using outside marketing agencies, high-caliber graphic design artists, unique label materials, new bottle styles and other techniques to make their wines stand out from others. At this point, Etched Images™ became a “glass decorating” service for the wine industry.

In 1993 Etched Images™ introduced an innovative dipping wax called NoChip Dip. This dipping wax had an appealing bright shine and didn’t chip & flake like the French wax presently in use.

Another early innovation was the popular technique developed by David Lincoln was Blackened bottles. This process simulates a full bottle of red wine and is a cost effective marketing tool.

As wine enthusiasts discovered the uniqueness and beauty of etched and painted bottles, Etched Images™ began a new phase in its business. Individuals and many businesses began to send us orders for wine bottles to be etched with corporate and event logos. The etched wine bottle became more than a marketing tool. It has become a year-round promotional gift used to celebrate special events and milestones.

Although there certainly is competition, Etched Images™ has earned a reputation for high quality design, workmanship, and service, thus putting the Company in a position to compete for business from a strong, growing market. Unlike the majority of its competitors, Etched Images has in-house capability for original, computer enhanced design staffed by skilled technicians and artists, coloring and waxing techniques seldom found in standard etching organizations, and a bonded 55 degree warehouse.

In 1998, I bought David out so that he could pursue his interest in starting another company, now named Laser Art Technology.

Etched Images™ is truly proud of its relatively small but handpicked staff of 25 and our great reputation!
