I am an father, artist, scientist and philosopher interested in the inner workings of the mind and how to harness and apply that power. With respect to art, I am a martial artist in the Shorin-Ryu style of karate. I also like to do watercolors and now have a strong interest in Hitsuzendo. Hitsuzendo combines calligraphy and mushin to create art from the soul. What is mushin? I wondered that as well and determined that mushin is a state of right brain consciousness equivalent to seeing as an artist sees the subject. A world karate Hall of Fame member Dan Hausel thought this was novel enough for me to write a book. The book combines Zen, the martial arts and art into a cogent whole to describe the state of awareness known as mushin.

With respect to watercolors, I like the play of light and shadow; soft and hard texture.
