The vision behind the Totora Project 09-10 is revisiting with actual knowledge the pattern of life and the resulted habitat of Uros.

Project partners of Totora Project 09: The Master Program Integral Studies of SAdBk-Stuttgart, Germany as a project coordinator, the Faculty of Industrial Design of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru (PUCP) in Lima as well as Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau, Dresden, Germany.

Project partners of Totora Project 10: The Master Program Integral Studies of SAdBk-Stuttgart, Germany as a project coordinator, the Faculty of Industrial Design of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru (PUCP) in Lima as well as PVT, Waiblingen, Germany.

We want to trigger the creative spirit of the Uros by suggesting concepts, encouraging them to create and experiment new solutions, within the established tradition, but in the context of the actual reality and with contemporary knowledge, keeping their unique life way based on local resources alive and projecting it to the future by involving the young generation and actual knowledge in the process.

It is essential to integrate the needs of the new generation: schools, sports and entertainment in the Totora’s floating world.

Making this habitat attractive for the young Uros and comfortable for their family will insure a solid future to this unique civilization. This is the expected effect of TOTORA 09 project, in the spirit of our program: INNOVATION IS HOPE

The two goals of the project follow this statement:

1. Conceiving original solutions for a contemporary habitat on floating Islands according to the Uros’s life model and their cultural tradition, inspiring them to refresh and vitalize it.

The topics are: shelter, drinking water, cooking, energy, hygiene and communication.

2. Developing new concepts for processing and manipulating Totora, enabling the Uros to cover better their needs and increasing their economic base by exploring the features and as such application potential of this fascinating material
