I'm old. At least older. I still cling to my caustic, sometimes immature sense of humor. I work. Hard. I run two group homes for kids. One for boys and one for girls. When parents abuse their kids, the kids are sent to me and the 14 staff who work for me. It's frightening how bad some mom's and dad's are. Before that I was a cop. I've shot, been shot at, been stabbed, am used to death, am addicted to looking at the bloody aftermath of crimes and accidents. I'm very familiar with the "fight or flight" syndrome and when cornered, prefer to fight. My experiences keep me grounded, the kids keep me young. I like that balance in my life.
