Specimens of new digital typefaces are the intellectual property of their creators. They retain copyright to these images. I cannot, and do not, grant any license to use such images.

In the case of printed type specimens, many are in the public domain, either because they were published long ago or because copyright was never renewed. Because type specimens are not always dated, and were reprinted repeatedly for years, it is not always possible to know if a type specimen has fallen into the public domain.

Type specimens from the pre-digital era were promotional items. They were created to be cut up, reused, and reproduced. So I consider it appropriate to republish them on this web site.

I release the scanned image files on this web site under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. This only applies to the scanned image files, NOT to the original printed type specimens, and not to new specimens of digital type.
