I started with an early interest in the arts when I won a blue ribbon in first grade for a watercolor painting collage of frogs. I credit my love of art, and the cultivation of it, to my Mom, Janet Dix, who always encouraged my creativity. My mother was an artist, but spent most of her time lovingly raising seven children. She would sign us up for painting lessons during the summer months with a neighborhood friend, Nancy Seibert. Nancy gave my twin sister and I art lessons from her home. To this day, Nancy is a major contributor towards my love of the abstract side of painting. I am honored to have two of her abstract paintings hanging in my home.
I have been selling my art professionally for the past six years. I have sold on a National and International level reaching far away places as Hong Kong, Netherlands, Japan, Germany, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and just recently, London. The internet allows the greatest visibility for my work and has enabled me to sell over 450 original paintings. I have presented my work in various galleries here in Ohio including Hudson Fine Art and Framing, the Silverthorne Gallery in Rocky River, and Clip Art Salon and Gallery in Tallmadge.
As far as my educational background in art goes, I dabbled in drawing and Art History classes during college. I was informed by friends and advisors that to make a living as an artist could be very difficult, so I decided to major in Marketing and received my B.B.A from Kent State University. I later went on to receive a diploma in Nursing in 1995, and worked as a PRN nurse for 4 years.
My signature pieces include "Tiny Dancers" and "Square Flowers". I am happily married to my hubby Tom. We have three boys ages 13, 12, and 10. I also have two adopted dogs and a cat. Linger Longer, a rescued greyhound, Belvadere "Big Head", a rottweiler mix, and "Mel" an oversized tabby.
