I got my first camera, a Bell & Howell/Canon 35mm hybrid,
as a gift from my dad when I was in my early teens. That camera made the rounds considering it originally came from my grandfather, and it was the camera I used throughout college. Since then I have been either taking pictures, drawing, painting, designing, building . . . .
My family thinks I’m nuts, and I still love them even though the feeling is mutual.
I have worked as a draftsman, graphic designer, art director, creative director and photographer. I have been an employee, a manager (yuk), a freelancer, and a business owner.
I love summer, being outside, and wearing tee shirts and shorts.
I think natural light is always the best, and shooting just before the sun comes up and just after it goes down . . . well, there is no better natural light than that.
I love the experience and human interaction when photographing people.
I prefer working with big fat film transparencies and use them whenever I can. Yea, I can shoot digital if you really, really want me to.
The strength of an image is directly related to its ability to make you pause. You don’t have to know why, that’s not the point.
I think everyone should visit the Grand Canyon at least once in their life, just to put things in perspective.
I believe in the simplicity of composition and I know it’s cliche’ but here goes, Less Is ALWAYS More.
