Karen Bovenmyer earned an MFA in Creative Writing: Popular Fiction from the University of Southern Maine. She teaches and mentors students at Iowa State University. She is the 2016 recipient of the Horror Writers Association Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Scholarship.
