I've worked in photography, visual design, and illustration since junior high school (which, in my case, was a loooong time ago!).
At various times in my life I've been a professional newspaper photographer, magazine photojournalist, studio product photographer, photographic illustrator, digital illustrator, pre-press Photoshop retoucher, instructional designer, creative director, Flash animator, and logo designer.
My title today is "User Experience Architect", working in usability, information architecture, and user interface design.
I once improved B&W news shots by burning in the sky on the prints; today, I improve my images using a much bigger toolkit but the principles are similar. To me, photography and digital illustration are points along a seamless continuum.
2 things to know about my work:
I will always be forthright about how much manipulation has gone into any of my images.
My experience in pre-press gave me a true understanding of the meaning of the concept of 'resolution', so my images can be used at virtually any scale of reproduction.
