The City of Coquitlam Animal shelter is a municply run no-kill for adoptable animals shelter. All the animals that are at the shelter have been stray and are now looking for their new forever homes. All animals that arrive at the shelter are held for 7 days to help owners find their lost pets. The staff at the shelter strives to reunite lost animals with their owners, and works to find new homes for the animals that are not claimed.

 

Adopting a pet is three easy steps:

 

1. Fill out an application form available at the Shelter;

2. Provide some general answers to questions Shelter staff member will ask regarding your ability to care for the animal;

3. Acquire a license (for dogs only).

 

Important to remember:

 

All applications are held for 24-48 hours to be approved. The Shelter does not do same day adoptions.

 

The City reserves the right to refuse adoption to any family where staff do not believe that there is an appropriate fit between the family and the animal. All animals are spayed or neutered when they leave the shelter unless they are too young.

 

In such instances the Shelter will provide a $50 certificate to have the animal spayed or neutered when it is older the owner will be required to sign a legal commitment to carry this out within six months of adoption.

  

How much does it cost to adopt an animal?

 

The costs for adoption are as follows:

  

Dogs: $130 plus GST

Puppies (six months or less): $175 plus GST

 

Two Dogs: $240 plus GST
