Schnitzeljagd
The term “schnitzel” is one of the most widely known words of the German language. Extremely German, yet at the same time international, “schnitzel” primarily refers to a cut of pork fried scrumptiously for the connoisseur of German cuisine. In a broad sense, “schnitzel” simply means an extracted part of the whole; a piece. A “schnitzel” is a detail, which on one hand functions perfectly on its own, but at the same time refers to a greater whole. The same is true for “schnitzel-jagd”, the paper chase. The hunter goes in search of scattered elements, trying to reach the hidden treasure piece by piece, “schnitzel by schnitzel.” The photographer “Schnitzeljagd” hunts the metropolitan jungle, in search of crisp and delicious pieces of reality. The greater context of his pictures, the pig comprised of his schnitzels, is Germany itself. But the single pig is only a part of the reality, merely a “schnitzel” of the greater whole: the planet Earth.
