The Maumelle Fire Department was created by Ordinance 540 on December 20, 2004. Prior to the passage of that landmark legislation, fire & rescue services were provided by a Department of Public Safety, which assumed the role of both the police and fire departments.

The fire department currently operates two stations with 24 career firefighters, approximately 12 volunteer firefighters, two chiefs and one administrative assistant. The department maintains a Class 3 ISO rating as it provides fire suppression, non-transport emergency medical services, rescue and hazardous materials services to the community.
