The best photographic advice ever given to me: Forget megapixels, optical zoom and LCD size. It really doesn't matter. The best camera is whatever camera you happen to be carrying. The key is to carry a camera everywhere, and take as many shots as possible. If you leave your camera in its protective case at home, then you will miss every shot.
