Well I thought it was about time I did some housework here so here goes, if you're interested read on..
I live in Somerset, in Street, not far from Glastonbury. I have two daughters at home and another lives in Perivale, West London, I have two grown up sons who live near Bristol.
I was born down here in 65 but my family came from Lancashire, they moved down in the winter of 63, lock stock and smoking Yankee V8 station wagon, long before the motorway was built. They took over Wetson Rd Garage in Cleeve, between WsM and Bristol.
Dad and uncle ran the garage then sold up after a couple of years. Dad went in to car sales until his death in 78 while he was sales manager at Bawns of Bristol, hence my interest in old Datsuns.
It is said that my love of Jaguars was created in the womb when dad borrowed a red MKII for a family holiday.
Cars and other things automotive have always been of interest but I tend not to get my hands too dirty these days if I can help it, though I do my own repairs where necessary..
I spend FAR too much time on Flickr and just can't help turning the page to see what's next when exploring someone's stream,
I like to know stuff about stuff, and I know a little about a lot of thingsand try and research my comments before posting anything factual on here..please don't be offended if I correct a mis-tagged photo or inaccurate description, I just like to see things as they should be - likewise feel free to correct anything I have got wrong, I enjoy the banter on here and it's great when a simple photo creates such interest that it shoots off in all directions
I like to find mystery cars in photos that are tricky to identify, I use a couple of places to look them up and spend far too long on it, I find motorbase.com is a great tool for finding obscure cars..I think my fave site is aronline, if you have a few days to spare it's an absolute joy, and full of fascinating information on all sorts of cars from the past.
My interest here is mainly cars from the 60's onward but not the new fangled blandomobiles..I also like coaches, car park scenes, old postcards, narrowboats, scenes of places I know and anything that catches my eye.
Since I started driving I've had around 200 cars, some lovely cars have passed through my hands that I wish I still had, I've had some right sheds too that I thought I'd be lumbered with..
I occasionally buy and sell the odd car or van.
I'm in to all sorts of music from all eras but don't follow a particular band or style, if I like the sound of it that's good enough, whether it's Benny Goodman or Benny Hill, Ted Heath or Ted Nugent..
Having said that my era is really 80's, I was a big fan of Kid Creole, the Blow Monkeys, Matt Bianco, Omd, Altered Images and the like..
Rather partial to a spot of Glenn Miller and Frank Sinatra too..
I have been a vocational licence holder for 20 yrs and have driven many hundreds of thousands of miles in coaches,
I hate bad driving, inept drivers who can't seem to see what's going on and act accordingly and have been known to shout loudly about it, not that they can hear me but it makes me feel better.. rear fog lamps are a red hot poker in the eye to me and I shout pointlessly at people who have then on when they shouldn't..usually in the rain or light mist or a week after some mild fog..If you insist on using them when it's not necessary then you won't mind mt full beams in your mirror wil you?
I'm a greying, middle aged and at times grumpy old man who likes nothing more than sniggering in to a pint of Butcombe, at childish things, like a bloke in the bar's badly fitting wig with long time friend and fellow flickrite kebab eater.
My particular favourite pastime is spotting wigs on men, I can detect them from a great distance and would love to one day inform the wearer that it'd be no less conspicuous if it had a chin strap..If any syrup wearers are reading this don't let me see a pic of you, because I'll take the piss out of you ! :-)
Despite the above, or perhaps because of it (I dare not ask) I am engaged to a gorgeous young lady 12 yrs my junior from Nepal, she's a Sherpa (as in Sherpa Tensing) Nimi can be seen in my stream, she loves the camera-fortunately she likes cars too but the expensive variety..
My current car is a 1988 SAAB 900 Turbo convertible.
I've previously always had large stuff like Jags and Mercs, even Yanks and like a bit of luxury..I had my first Jag at age 19 and got insurance for £300 ! despite being 6ft 4 I've also had an MG Midget..
I've probably droned on for too long but if you've read this far you might be interested in some of the stuff in my stream. I find myself shooting all manner of things these days that catch my nosy eye and since going pro, thanks to a gift from kebab eater, cheers my friend, I now have space to expand the variety of content.
I hope you enjoy your trip through my pictures, some of which will make you smile I'm sure, please do leave some comments too, I love to get some feedback on my snaps, if only to ascertain whether to leave it up or delete it.
All of my photos are taken with nothing more sophisticated than a Nokia mobile phone with 5mgpxl camera, but I think you'll agree they're generally acceptable..
So that's me done, hope to bump into you on here somewhere..
Dom..
