Biography

I’ve been interested in photography since my late teens. Over the years this interest often became a hobby, a passion and even occasionally a job but, for the most part, life got in the way.

I now look back on many of my earlier travels and think of the memories that I could have captured indefinitely on celluloid, rather than having them fade away in my sieve like synapses.

While I had worked as a photographer for several publications in England, I really started to show some love to my SLR after I moved to Sydney. In a city blessed with one of the world’s most wonderful natural harbours, scores of picture perfect beaches and a gloriously diverse populace. I felt rejuvenated just living there and I guess I wanted to capture this essence somehow.

Oddly though (and certainly as a reflection of my 9 to 5 life at the time) I erred towards capturing street life not the wider natural canvas that surrounds Sydney. My only output at that time was on Instagram and Flickr.

The social aspect of modern photography is one of the reasons I fell in love with taking photos again. I would not get the buzz I do without the interactions made possible through social networks and the great people who form online photography communities.

Until recently, I didn’t feel the need for my own digital space. I never felt I had a portfolio worth sharing or stories worth telling.

Finding myself on an open ended trip around South America changed all that. My camera time increased exponentially and my photos suddenly came packaged with narrative.

I decided it was time to put a website together and share what I saw through my lens with other like minded photographers and travellers.
