I am a self-employed Structural Engineer in Monterey California. I do the structural calculations, plans, and details for some of the most expensive houses in the United States. I am far more likely to be found behind a computer or scientific calculator than a camera
I believe that the intense visual and mental focus I need in my day-to-day work lends itself to photography. At work I spend all day figuring out how two dimensional plans and details fit together in three dimensions. Photography is just the opposite, turning a three dimensional scene into a two dimensional image.
The only silver lining to the current economic downturn is that for the first time In quite a while, I have had the time to work with old photographs, travel, and take new ones.
I have mostly shot with a Pentax 645 medium format camera, but I am also now using a Canon EOS Rebel xsi and sometimes a Holga 120 camera.
