ABOUT ME:
BE HONEST WITH MY PHOTOS. I KNOW SOME ARE BEING TAKEN FOR OTHER PEOPLE'S USE. THAT IS NOT GOOD, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE INTO COMMERCIAL PUBLICATIONS. DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!
MY IMAGES ARE NOT TO BE DOWNLOADED OR TAKEN FOR ANY PURPOSE WITHOUT PERMISSION. CONTACT ME IF YOU NEED ANYTHING. THESE ARE MY PROPERTY.
I joined Flickr in the 2 nd half of 2006 and have enjoyed my time here and have made wonderful contacts. I am now retired giving me the time to concentrate more on photography, but as I do so, I realise my skills are not that great and try to absorb more as I progress. As I truly believe – “I am not a great photographer; I just have great subjects to photograph.”
I have had many interests through my life, many of which I try to hold on to with varying degrees of success. These include – sports (fixture cricket and tennis) and lawn bowls – fishing – collecting various things – gardening (vegetables and especially tropical fruit trees) – curiosity about many things in life and nature – classical music - and of course photography. Since 1985 I have always been in the Apple range of computers and have remained with these, just this year adding a new desktop and laptop and purchasing Photoshop CS3 which I have to try to learn. Now I have to learn how to improve my photography to match the hardware equipment.
I love my Canon S3-IS but I realise the limitations in the landscape situations of strong light and contrast. I think I’d like a SLR but good ones are not cheap. (Edit:- 26 March 2009 - Since writing this my S3-IS got a lens error and has been replaced with another S3. I have also added a Canon 450 D SLR and a Canon SX1-IS.)
Living in the dry outback of Australia for many years, then for the past 22 in the coastal wet tropics has made me very aware of the contrast this country has. I try very much to capture the beauty and uniqueness of my region to share it with others. My Christian faith is my priority and has helped me appreciate the beauty around me.
MY FLICKR AIMS AND POLICIES
1. My aim is to represent my area faithfully and to share some of its values and beauty, and to share photos of photographic interest.
2. I hope to learn from others and any suggestions and artistic criticisms of my photos are always welcome.
3. Do NOT just take my photos for your own use in blogs and publications. I have been asked by a few organizations (mainly educational) for use of a photo in learning material and I always say yes, especially as I come from a background in education. Please be decent to ask, not steal.
4. I suppose I will never lose that educational side to me, so it probably comes through in my photos where I love to explain and make commentaries and write about my photos. I hope people find that interesting.
5. In regards to 4 above, I often wish my contacts would add something to their photos. Sometimes there is nothing at all and I have no idea of any details – location, interest, reason, etc. Thank you to those who clarify their photos.
6. I nearly always prepare my photos in 1200 x 900 pixels for Flickr and they are meant to be viewed at that higher rate for the best effect.
CONTACTS
1. I have a great respect for a lot of my contacts and over time, many have become good friends from all over the world. Of course some drop out and we never hear of them again; others are able to remain longer.
2. I consider my contacts important and always try to get to their photos as much as I am able. I like seeing contacts’ photos and I comment as much as I am able. It is good to share in others’ experiences and see places I will never ever get to myself.
3. DO NOT ADD ME AS A CONTACT:-
(a). if all you are wanting is to use me as a person to make comments on your photos. Some who add me have thousands of contacts and I never hear from them apart from their photos being in my contacts’ photos.
(b). if you are running a commercial photography business and all you want to do is advertise.
(c). if you want to use Flickr as a way of pushing idealogies or activist or political agendas. Flickr is not the place to do that.
4. I appreciate all those who write to me by Flickrmail, and who leave kind comments on my photos. Feel free anyone to communicate if you desire by Flickrmail.

Ron has one of the best sites on Flickr!! Everytime I feel the need to take a trip to a far-away place, I look at Ron's photos!! I'm always amazed at the things he's able to capture with his camera!! Keep up the good work, Ron!!!

Ron's photos give me a combination of pleasure as well as intellectual stimulation ... a day is not considered complete if I have not availed myself of his considerable talent ... as only one example of his work: his collection of "most comments" is growing and growing .. one need not be Nostradamus to see that Ron's work is garnering well deserved accolades ... a dear friend for some time, I found Ron to be a man of deep thought and his expertise which accompanies each photograph is one from which I learn daily ... as a deeply caring individual, Ron comments upon photos of mine with understanding and wit, a rare combination indeed! As for his photography itself: ultimately, at the heart of every single photograph, Ron shows his mastery of camera technique as well as post editing to produce brilliant masterpieces ... he always gives his viewers a detailed explanation of each and every photograph ... I consider it a high privilege to have this unique person as a friend and contributor!

Ron is an excellent photographer and an extraordinary spokesperson (in want of a better, more photographically oriented, word) of his place. From his photos I have started to become acquainted with his bit of Australia that has enhanced the image I had from reading Flannery (The future eaters) and Hughes (The Fatal Shore). He is also attentive, gentle and compassive. But above all he is someone that has a sense of place, something we all should have and the Earth would be a better place. I want to let everyone know that Emblatame is such a sensitive, kind man and that his gentleness can be perceived through his humble words and his appreciation of nature through his photography work. I am happy and feel blessed to find such a sweet gentleman. I found Emblatame through browsing and looking at other people’s pictures of nature. I decided to select some of his shots as my favorites not really having a clue as to what I was doing. I did not write any comments, because I felt at that moment that I was sort of intruding and invading his space and time. Suddenly, I started to notice that he commented on some of my photos. Then and there, I learned that it is okay to write. It is amazing that through his comments I learned how all this works and he helped me to release the fear of communicating with others. He was the catalyst that prompted me to go ahead and feel free to write. I am still learning though. I want to take this opportunity to thank him from the bottom of my heart. Emblatame, your approach means much to me and I see you as my mentor. Thank you for your much appreciated advice and suggestions. Please know that they will certainly not go in vain. I take it, work with it and come back to show the improvements. I also want to let you know that your pictures are truly mesmerizing. I had no idea that there is so much natural beauty in this world. Your photos are proof of that. I always heard that your country is beautiful, but never knew how enchanting it is. I feel that with your photos, I found a great treasure that enriches my life and inspires me as well. I will take time to go back to your site and make comments. It is such a privilege to get to know you. I ask God to bless you richly and to always help you to continue to take such marvelous shots! Thankfully, Sakarimar.
