I was employed at Southend Airport in the 1960s and as a long-time aviation enthusiast, took full advantage of the opportunities my work provided to photograph aircraft resident at and visiting the airport. Some of my photos were published in magazines including 'Aeroplane', 'Flight' and 'Air Pictorial' at the time and subsequently others appeared in early issues of 'Propliner'. I also contributed many photos to the revised, three-volume edition of A J Jackson's Putnam classic, 'British Civil Aircraft Since 1919'.

I was a member of the production team of the initially local monthly organ of the Anglian Aviation Society, 'Southend Aeronews', which grew into 'Anglia Aeronews' and was a respected source of information on aviation events in East Anglia until the early 1970s. I helped launch and run the Society's photographic print sales service, 'Photavia'. For two years I co-edited Air-Britain's 'British Civil Aviation News' magazine and for a similar period compiled the Airport Visitors pages of 'Air Pictorial', in which I also had a few articles published.
