PANDEMIC PERSPECTIVES

It's not over until it's over! Is it over? In late 2023, only between one and two hundred people are still dying of COVID-19 every week. Maybe it is nearly over but we don't know. In the UK, where one in a hundred sufferers died, and more than one in three hundred of the population, few lessons have been learned. Anti-vaxxers, flat-earthers, Tories and other forms of stupid still heavily infect our intellectual space. The role of government remains the infliction of poverty upon as many people as possible. The hope that the nature of government or the nature of commerce would be changed for the better by the lessons of COVID-19 has proved to be in vain. No new tolerance and love for our fellow human beings has emerged and we are forced to look back at the decades following WW2 as a golden age of progress. :-o

Many of us who have hidden our real selves and our desires from the world may see things quite differently. In spite of countless failings of government and electorate alike, maybe a new beginning is called for and it will be time to make ourselves pretty, strut into work in our favourite skirt and heels, and say goodbye to the masculine regimentation. The future is pink. I hope we find the courage and inspiration.

T-LIFE

In the best ladylike traditions, I routinely lie about my age. In the best tgirl traditions, I have lied about my height. However, one of the blessings of growing older is that I am shrinking. It is as though all that wishing to be shorter and more typical girl-height has paid off. If only that would work for vaginas.

I can hardly believe that there have been over a million views of my flickr. And then hundreds of thousands more. That growth seems to be accelerating and as my fame spreads (oh heavens, that is so-o-o scary) the second (!) million does not seem far away. Those are not the biggest numbers by the standards of flickr but being a shy and age-afflicted transgender woman, having hundreds of thousands of people looking at these modest pictures of me is both flattering and frightening. Of course, many of those views are as a result of my many thousands of Favourites from the profiles of pretty woman across flickr, many of them other transgender women, and that's fine. One way or another, I hope these pictures inspire some respect instead of the immense cruelty and wickedness that transgender women often experience on social media.

I sometimes describe myself as a gender prevarication graduate. By that I mean that I feel that the years have slipped by and the time when it would have been right for me to transition and enjoy a full life as a woman has passed. (Though it occurs to me that perhaps I could still cash in on the higher female life expectancy.)

And on the subject of bravery, so often, I am not so good at it myself. The fact that due to my new openness here, tens of thousands of people are looking at pictures of me, is quite scary. Thankfully, several of them are very complementary, which is really nice. (I do get a laugh from admirer's usernames that are just that bit too frank about what they are doing when looking at pictures of women on the internet.)

When out and about have a new trick to help my feminine demeanour and acceptance. I think to myself 'Oh heavens, I am so lucky to be able to experience even a small part of life as a woman and so particularly lucky to be wearing these beautiful clothes and this lovely lingerie. Lovely gentlemen are holding doors and ushering me past, and people are so sweet and helpful. This is wonderful. I hope I'm as pretty as I feel.' And that keeps me smiling, and I know that makes me prettier and it puts people at ease.

In my favourites are many pictures of lovely women most of whom find themselves forced to become women. For some that is a permanent change and for others it can only be for a part of their lives. There is nothing they can do to stop this change. It is not really a choice. I have mainly used isometric exercises, holding the larynx back and up for 6 to 10 seconds, to train the new larynx position and it seems to work well for me. Some pitch adjustment may be necessary as well but don't overdo that or force it. I am achieving a light feminine voice in the right range fairly easily these days without any kind of forcing. Be sure to take things gently and progressively.
