I would like to point out from the start that I am VERY amateur. I use an old Canon Eos 300 'film' camera, with a 28-80mm lense. I love macro photography, however cannot afford a macro lense, so I use close-up lenses. I then scan my photos onto the computer with a scanner.
My favourite photographic subjects are Australian spiders and capturing their unseen world. I would like people to see them for their important role in the ecosystem, rather than something to be squashed or to be feared. Almost all spiders are completely harmless, and almost all spiders that aren't harmless, are so timid that you have to really try hard to get bitten. It's like snakes, most people who get bitten by snakes, are attempting to chop their head off. I would bite you too if you tried to cut my head off! They merely need to be treated with respect.
Anyway, there are exceptions to every rule. But I believe that arachnophobia is socially taught, and needs to be weaned out. Spiders have such an amazing diversity in form and lifestyle. They are just waiting to be discovered, studied and conserved, like any other 'cute and furry' animal.
To get off the ranting path, I also like to photograph any interesting part of nature that I come across, particularly insects, fungi and reptiles.
