Earl C. Leatherberry
Drag to set position!
Most of my youth was spent in North Carolina. I was drafted into the military and served for 22 years, with 20 of those years as a reservist. I was employed by the Federal government for 34 years and have lived in Minnesota since 1973. I have traveled extensively. My lifelong avocation has been to understand the factors that have contributed to shaping culture. I seek out objects produced or shaped by people. I search for evidence of how individuals or cohorts have influenced or impacted the culture or human activities of Americans. I am especially interested, from a historical perspective, in the lifeways of indigenous and enslaved people and social dynamics associated with the acculturation of their ancestors on the North American continent. I look for anthropogenic activities that have impacted the natural environment, including wildlife. I seek understanding and the truth. My joy is discovery- pure and simple!!!

I am grateful to be able to view his photos and read his narration. These images belong in a traveling exhibition. I only wish the Midwestern skies would be a little more generous with some blue now and then.

Earl Leatherberry easily has the most interesting, fun and informative Flickr photostream that have ever seen. He has traveled all over the United States for years taking photos of places and things, some of which are gone now, that few others have bothered with. As a result, he has been providing an irreplaceable treasury of American history and Americana that will be around until the last computer pixel has been dimmed. Thank you sir - you are a true American hero.
