As a tool for learning and identification, Flickr has enormous potential. It provides an avenue whereby expertise can be shared with the 'layperson' (everyone is an expert on something). Clearly, errors and misidentification are widespread, but for the most part, I find I can use it to identify various organisms, or at least confirm my suspicions.

It is a vehicle for sharing knowledge and expertise.

For those who would ridicule this concept, and cite the many errors contained, I can only say that Flickr is a self-correcting entity, that over time will develop and mature.

It is already, something that I would find hard to live without.
