Hi, I'm Roy, otherwise known as Ozzy (cause I am old like him), or wickedKlown (online, but now there are hundreds of copycats with no originality just like me). I am 53, married (yep, I'm taken) and have 5 kids at home, 2 away, and 5 granddaughters.
I was born in England, traveled the world all my younger life and settled in Australia at 14. Lived and worked in all states and now live in Salisbury North, a suburb of Adelaide in South Australia.
I worked in the IT industry, UNIX and Network Management, before that spent years cutting code. Burnout takes over, the young guys will find this out quicker than I did. Took up photography, again, as an full daytime interest with a view to going professional. Like shooting bird life, sunsets, and landscapes. I will also point my camera at just about anything and take a shot, when I am walking around. And I love city street work but this is getting harder all the time. Not sure if that is because of the times or because of my sick morbid tee-shirts (must buy one with a camera on it). It's hard to blend in when your different.
I use an assortment of camera's, fixed dSLR and bodies, my favorite being an old Canon D60 with an old japanese glass 500mm f8 M20 lens, which I use with a cheap Hong Kong adapter. The lens is not easy to focus, and does not gather light well, but once you have got it right the detail it captures is amazing.
I love working images, not just to express what I wanted to capture with the camera but also to see how far and what I can do. My favourite software, Photoshop CS5. Why, besides it's raw power, no particular reason.
The Important Stuff
Most of the family shots are not mine, they have been shot by family members.
In amongst uploaded images there are a few that are copyrighted and are available for purchase. If you wish to purchase a copyright image, or use a Creative Commons image, please contact me by leaving a message on Flickr. If an image is copyright it does not mean I charge for it's use, it is to protect my rights in what it can be used for. I do irregular searches, and in the past I have found images used without permission and on sites I would not support, one site was barred by it's ISP after my name was associated with a brutalized pedo rape murder victim, images I had supposedly taken, and also images of mine that were taken but used for other purposes on the same page. So please, if you want to use an image I am happy to oblige so contact me
Given the nature of Social sites like Flickr the images here are not fully representative of the work I do. No offence to Flickr as I use it as well and love it. I can provide contact sheets with thumbnails, or may have images based on your search requirements. Please contact me by leaving a message on Flickr if you want more details.
I do not sell raw format images, any image can be worked according to your requirements in the cost of the image. This only applies to copyrighted images, not CC. Images can be provided in most common file formats and color in sRGB, Adobe, Prophoto, and a few others.
Please do not use any images without my permission, and you must have proper proof of purchase if a copyright image is used. Any infringements will be dealt with according to Australian Copyright laws.
Very Important to Photographers
I do not sell any images on microstock sites. As a photographer not only are you not being paid what the image is worth, but dealing with microstock sites will eventually affect your status in the industry if you want to suceed in the industry.
Use of Stock Photography libraries on the web are now an important source of income revenue, a lot of these site will not continue a relationship with you if you are registered with a microstock site.
If you are not receiving approx 40% plus on an image sale, or if you are not receiving $20.00 plus on an image sale, the chances are you are looking at a microstock site. I did say approx, and this is because it depends on your image, the size, the quality, the format, the license, some images may only return $5.00 an image sale. What do the microstock receive for a blink of an eye in CPU processing time, half of what you should have received had you negotiated with the customer, OR had used a reputable Stock library. A microstock site may receive $20 to $100 fo an image and may pass on just $1, or less in some cases.
And that is me in a nutshell. Strange, yes, but weren't most great photographers? I am practicing at being strange. Am I a photographer, this I am not sure because each time I look in the mirror all I see is me.
Enjoy!
