Our Story

I started this Flickr account in 2007 as way for us to share pictures within our extended, far-flung family. So there are many pictures that are not public; for friends and family only. Some in the family contributed, and everyone checked in from time-to-time. There were no artistic pretensions, just pictures that might interest people in the family.

But then came Facebook. (I hate it.) Now everyone posts their pictures there, and I suppose that, for most people, it's a lot easier to navigate. But I seem to be the only one left in the family interested in making use of Flickr. Of course, if I announce that there's something new posted, people come look. But no one else seems interested in posting.

In January 2013 I got a new Canon T4i and began trying to do more with photography. It's been an adventure. I hope that if you look at what I've posted since then you will see steady improvement in the pictures I've taken and posted.

I got the Canon 100mm USM macro lens, and I've been experimenting with HDR. And then I acquired more bodies and lenses as I grew. Hopefully, I've improved significantly from when I began. You can be the judge.

Before getting serious, composition was something I had never thought much about. As I began watching YouTube videos on the technology of photography, I learned about things like "the rule of thirds." I suppose that I'd heard of it before, but I didn't know what it was nor how important it is. So I'm trying to learn to apply it. Another adventure has been learning Lightroom, Photomatix, and Photoshop.

So now, we have those artistic pretensions...
