Catching photons and telling stories is how I describe photography. It’s what I think about when I change shutter speed, sensitivity, and aperture. Every moment and story creates or reflects Light. Capturing it properly is a science and an art. This unique epistemological combination is what has always attracted me to photography. The science of photography is knowing how to manipulate Light and exploit the capabilities of your equipment. This ensures beautiful color, intended focus, and the appropriate amount of sharpness. But this alone does not tell a story. Composing an image and seeing the moment is the art. My goal as a photographer is to challenge both my inner scientist and my inner story teller. Both of these require mindfulness and intentionality. Paying attention to my soundings and looking for the story, perspective, or event requires continuous attention on my surroundings.
