Hey there! I’m Rebekah Grant and have just completed the Art 105 class at UMKC. This class taught me an incredible amount and helped shape my eye for photography. However, this is not where my love of photography started. For as long as I can remember I have loved photos. Looking at them, taking them with cameras, and sharing them with others. Within the past few years, I had begun to be more intentional with the photos I took, not simply snapping without looking at WHAT was showing up on my phone screen before taking the shot. The photography class I have taken this semester has pushed me to grow in that skill even more! I started using a DSLR camera with its multitude of functions and systems to adjust and shape a photo into what I am imagining. My professor stressed the need to look through the viewfinder at what you see, adjust, and then take the shot. This class pushed me and made me fall even more in love with photography!

I have discovered two main kinds of photography that I love, portrait and nature. It is such a special experience to be able to capture someone’s personality in a photo for them to share with their friends and family for years! I also love photographing nature because there is so much variety in creation and so much “natural” beauty to explore and capture. It is a joyful mystery to me how even the simplest, most common objects, like a pile of stones, can become a power image when shot with just the right settings! Take a peek at my work and let me know what you think!
