I am a volunteer at Steam Incorporated, where I mainly take photos of the activities at the Paekākāriki depot and during our excursions. In addition, I photograph uncommon rail movements from other companies such as KiwiRail, including their Hutt Workshops on rare occasions.
My passion for photography began with the railways, as there are so many different aspects to capture, as well as the life some of these engines have. I am still relatively new to photography, having about two years of experience with a DSLR that a friend kindly loaned me. (None of those early photos are included here.)
I now use a range of cameras, including my own Canon 400D and 20D, a school-loaned 1500D, and sometimes even my phone.
My next portfolio will focus on the different areas and eras of New Zealand’s railways, with an emphasis on the people who work within the railway world rather than the trains alone.
I aim to continue improving my photography skills by practicing as much as I can in my free time, although I do not see myself pursuing a full-time career in photography.
