I’m a Michigan-based photographer who works in pharmaceutical manufacturing by day and spends as much free time as possible with a camera in hand. Photography has been an on-and-off part of my life for a long time. I started with a film camera in middle school, mostly taking pictures of squirrels in the backyard. In eighth grade, I was gifted a digital camera to take on a school trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City and took photos nonstop. I still remember that trip clearly, even though my interest in photography faded not long after.
I picked it back up years later in 2014, when I bought my first real digital camera for a vacation shortly after getting married. This time it stuck. Photography became the way I document trips and experiences, and eventually the reason for planning many of them. Over time, I began building my kit—mostly used gear—and seeking out places with dramatic landscapes, wildlife, and dark skies. Trips to places like Glacier National Park, Torres del Paine in Chile, and South Africa had strong focus on photographic opportunities.
My work includes landscapes, wildlife, and astrophotography, often made in national parks and remote areas, as well as my backyard. My wife and I have a simple agreement when we travel: she hikes for the exercise, and I hike for the photography. As long as we’re walking toward something worth seeing, we both win. These photographs come from that shared time outdoors, moving through places slowly and paying attention to what’s there.
