I am a 57-year-old guy from Jäppilä. My photography hobby started in the 70s with an Agfamatic sensor. And it ended pretty quickly when I happened to read a wise article. According to this wise person, you can't become a good photographer if you can't draw. For me, drawing stick figures is already a great achievement.

In the early 90s, after the economic recession, the greatest respect for authorities had already faded, and in its place came the attitude of the Finnish man—prrkle, let’s do it.

And that’s when it began, intense photography. It even became my job at the turn of the millennium. However, that job lasted only a couple of years; I would have had to become an entrepreneur, and I didn’t see that as a sensible option.

After going through various phases, I ended up working in a profession I had trained for, in the middle of the 90s recession, and still in the construction industry.

Work and learning the job took all my time and energy, so the photography hobby gradually faded...

In a way, the circle closed in the summer of 2024, when there was really nothing else but work, and I had to come up with something else. Of course, photography had been on my mind all along, in the back of my head, and I had been looking at pictures taken by others all the time.

So, at the end of the summer of 2024, I got the equipment and started learning again...

Some of the pictures were taken during the film era, and I scanned them sometime last century.

I haven't been able to polish these new photos all the way through yet.

Olen 57-vuotias jäpikkä Jäppilästä. Kuvausharrastus alkoi 70-luvulla Agfamatic sensorilla. Ja loppui melko pian, kun satuin lukemaan jonkun viisaan kirjoituksen. Tämän viisaan mukaan ei voi tulla hyväksi kuvaajaksi, jos ei osaa piirtää.

Minulle tikku-ukon piirtäminen on jo suursaavutus.

90-luvun alkupuolella, laman jälkimainingeissa oli jo suurimmat kunnioitukset auktoriteettejä kohtaan karisseet, ja tilalle tullut Suomalaisen miehen asenne, prrkle, kahotaan.

Ja siitä se sitten alkoi, intensiivinen kuvaaminen. Joka muuttui vuosituhannen vaihteessa jopa työksikin. Tuota työtä ei kestänyt kuitenkaan kuin pari vuotta, olisi pitänyt ryhtyä yrittäjäksi, ja sitä en katsonut järkeväksi vaihtoehdoksi.

Erilaisten vaiheiden jälkeen päädyin töihin ammattiin, johon olin valmistunut keskelle 90-luvun lamaa, ja vielä rakennusalalle.

Työ ja työn opettelu vei kaiken ajan ja voimavarat, joten kuvausharrastus pikkuhiljaa hiipui....

Tavallaan kesällä 2024 ympyrä sulkeutui, kun ei ollut oikein mitään muuta kuin työ ja oli pakko keksiä jotain muutakin. Tokihan kuvaaminen oli ollut mielessä koko ajan jossain takaraivossa, ja muiden ottamia kuvia olin katsellut koko ajan. Niinpä loppukesästä 2024 hommasin välineet, ja aloin taas opetella...

Kuvista osa on otettu jo filmikaudella, olen ne skannannut joskus viime vuosituhannella. Näitä uusia kuvia en ole jaksanut ihan loppuun asti hieroa.
