I've been active in photography for over 60 years, not only as a serious amateur, but also shooting professionally. Like many others, I shot film in the good old days. I did much of my own processing and enjoyed working in a darkroom that I built. I am very fortunate to have found and married a woman who is equally passionate about photography. Over the years we've worked together, helped each other, and learned from each other.
Back in 2004 we made our first move into the world of digital when I purchased a Canon G2. Having been Canon film shooters for a number of years, this decision was easy for me to make. A nice, and somewhat more advanced 4mp point and shoot camera that I still have, but rarely take it out now. In 2005, I purchased our first digital dSLR, a Canon 20D, and I still have and use it to this day.
Some number of years later we were asked to shoot a friends wedding. Knowing that redundancy of gear is critical in shooting weddings (you can't afford to have gear fail on you when shooting one time only events) I borrowed a Nikon D200 from a friend while my wife shot with our 20D. After that, you might say I was sold on Nikon's features and functions and ease of use compared to the Canon platform. When it became time to buy another body, it was a Nikon D300 that I went with.
Let me just say a few things about following, and being followed by Flickr friends. I will never have a problem about being followed, and hopefully, some of my work will inspire you. But I cannot make a promise that I will follow you in return. I am pretty selective on who I follow being that commenting on friends photos is something I will try to do often. I simply do not have the time to comment on hundreds++ of friends photos. Before making a decision to follow someone I have some basic criteria that I follow. After looking at your work and your profile if I see that you are following multiple hundreds or multiple thousands already I will typically choose to not follow you. I believe in quality, and not quantity, so please do not take it personally if I do not reciprocate with a follow. Being that I take the time to comment on friend's photos I also expect some comments in return on my photos. If after some period of time I do not see that happening I will un-follow you. There are times that I will choose to follow someone simply because I truly admire their work, and also feel I can learn from that person. I'm a firm believer that we never stop, nor should we ever stop learning. In those situations, I cannot expect you to follow me if you choose not to.
Many thanks again to all who visit my work and fav and/or comment on my work...I greatly appreciate that!
