Ever since I brought pictures of the Kaibab Plateau taken on a college road trip to my mother’s father’s home color lab, I have been high on high aspect ratios, like 5:1. I’m not sure where the triptych prints my grandfather and I made now rest, but my love of panoramics has seeped into my visions of the world.
My nomadic travels around Alta California en plein air lead me to bow or kneel on our shores and short mountaintops. Who cannot weep or sing with glee at the glorious creation we have received? The gifts of our fore-mothers and -fathers, the Earth’s caretakers for more than 10,000 years, are shockingly abundant. I kneel and kiss the Earth Mother with my forehead and my lips with gratitude.
