I am a Belgian amateur photographer, aged 60+ and based in Brussels, Belgium.
Since I was 17, I have done a lot of slides (landscape, architecture, travel photography, family...) with analog equipment (Pentax, Nikon). Then, for practical reasons (light backpack travelling), I had a digital compact camera (Lumix) for about 10 years. Finally, I came back to full-gear-but-not-too-big, opting for Fujifilm, in 2017. I want to challenge myself with new projects : more living and moving subjects, some street photography, try new elaborated "post production" processings.
About the "Corps étranger/Foreign Body" (album and) project :
Initially, all I wanted was to start a project of surreal elaborate nude portraits. I have always been fascinated by the human body as a subject and amazed by the strange approach our society has to nudity. Having no experience in that field whatsoever, I went for the most straightforward way : use myself as the subject. Being 60+, another incentive to act this way might have been the will to keep track of my body as it is now before the unavoidable decay due to old age. Finally, as I belong to the baby-boomers generation, this project is also my sincere but quite gonzo answer to what society is expecting from me these days : to rethink my preconceptions about what a man should or should not be. I gladly (and honestly) accept the challenge, but let’s keep it perky.
Being the photographer and the model as well is quite fun... and a bit challenging too. It takes a lot of trial and error before I can reach what I have in mind. Usually I try to get access to other people's tenements, houses or premises, but I occasionally venture in open nature, always trying to remain unnoticed, which adds a bit of adrenaline to the process.
I like my images to look like paintings, ideally with a total depth of field – no bokeh – and only carefully chosen elements within the frame. All images are Photoshop treated, none is composite – nothing is added to the image captured by the camera.
