The core mission of BMF is to supplement and complement the development efforts of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.

BMF was founded by the Former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, the Late Benjamin William Mkapa, to contribute to a healthier, more prosperous, inclusive, and resilient society.
